Summary
The texts in this collection address key questions related to the theory and practice of museum communication and interpretation: Can objects in the museum speak? What “language” do they speak? Do we need “translation”? Whose voices are the objects associated with, and what grand narratives and ideological discourses do they fit into? Is the “agency” that produces these narratives and discourses visible? How does the curator exercise the “power” he or she has? Do visitors have a “voice” in the museum? And last but not least - does a “conversation” take place in the museum?
The collection presents the papers presented at the scientific conference of the same name in September 2013 at the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Studies with the Ethnographic Museum at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
The book contains a 12-page color appendix.
